Computer-Controlled Hot Plate

Abstract

Hot plate is a tools to heat up metal shielded circuitry (module) in electronic industry. It is used to heat the metal shield at almost the same temperature if the circuitry is inside the real box (an instrument). In order to simulate that, understanding on temperature requirement is necessary for the target circuitry. Noted that the temperature is not always the same where its depend on the performance test of the device under test (DUT). Hence a computer controlled hot plate is required such that the same computer can control both the test station and the hot plate intelligently.

PC-Based Security System

The idea is that: A few sensors is installed at the critical/potential criminal area. The sensor’s circuitry then send an understandable computer signal to the PC. The PC then identify which area has been intruded and display in details to the user. Implementation will be on any software platform (VB, C, C++, C# etc)  and it is expected to use USB interfacing.

RS232 wireless computer link

This is an idea of designing a RS232 wireless unidirectional computer link. This system includes two separate devices which allow a transmitter connected to a RS232 port of the first computer to communicate with the receiver connected to a RS232 port of the second computer. Each device will act as a self-contained independent system. The data will be sent over RF waves on a chosen carrier frequency which could be 315 MHz, 418 MHz or 433 MHz. The modulation technique used is Frequency Shift Keying (FSK) which converts the logic level data from RS232 serial port to radio frequency. Amplitude Shift Keying (ASK) also can be used to modulate this data as its alternative modulation method. There are several objectives to be archived in this project, firstly it is to choose the allowable carrier frequency as mentioned earlier and also a suitable modulation scheme is required for the design. The second objective of this project is to construct an RS232 wireless unidirectional computer link between PCs. The method for doing this can either be RF carrier, acoustic or optical link. It is only one transmitter and one receiver for demonstration purposes. The design can send data from one computer to the other computer via RS232 port wirelessly. Finally is to ensure that the design is a system that could be used for further development of bi-directional communication between a PC.

The design uses the AM Hybrid Transmitter and AM RF Receiver modules at 433MHz. The interface circuits used was the level converter and buffer. As usual the level converter is used to convert the RS232 level to TTL/CMOS level. In order to match the modules with the level converter, a buffer circuit is required. Buffer in the transmitter part is the same as in the receiver, but it performs different functions.

Useful link in getting ideas or circuitry for project development

ELECTRONIC KITS & MODULES link is quite useful as it sell a good products. Click on it, and I am sure you will love it.
There are people out there who still using serial communication eventhough USB became the first choice nowadays. USB is actually a serial communication. The Serial and UART Tutorial is very useful for the beginner to explore what does it means by serial communication in a real world.

In designing a project, first you will try to imagine what type of project would you like to do. Then you will start thinking of how the system flow by probably preparing a suitable block diagram. From the block diagram, obviously make you drill down to the propose circuit available as well as its component used. Whenever if you are going to analyse a circuit, there is somehow compulsory for you to know the functions of every component, right. Some of them require you to view the Component's Datasheet.

Designing a project, normally people are splitting the whole project into several block. After splitting them, every block must have a specification to be achieved. Put your focus on the input and output requirement first before you declare the rest. It is because your blocks will be combined as soon as every block working properly. In order to avoid "miss and match" problem the output from the front block should meet the requirement of the input of the back block. From here, you can imagine now that the block diagram is cascaded from the first block to the last block unless you are designing a close loop system. Brief about close loop system..." A close loop system is a system that need an output mechanism (signal, voltage, current..etc) to be feed into the input to make the next decision on the next process to be done".
